In 2018, members of the Society researched the history of the four nonconformist Chapels in the parish – Thorn Moor (Baptist), Rexon Cross (Bible Christian / Methodist), Downicary (Wesleyan / Methodist) and Grinacombe (Bible Christian / Methodist). The results can be viewed on the BWW Chapels pages.
In 2019, David Willey did an in-depth study of field names, based on the Tithe Redemption Map. His presentation on this was on 16th December 2019, during which he indicated that he had found evidence of various medieval field systems still being in place. His exceptional written piece on this can be viewed on this link – Medieval Open Field Systems in Broadwoodwidger.
David Tovey did research on BWW Mills and Millers and BWW Blacksmiths – see pages on website.
in 2020, it is proposed to do research based on the records of St Nicholas Church.
These include:-
1. Parish Record Book starting 1887
2. Record of Marriages 1698-1912
3. Record of Baptisms 1698-1979
4. Record of Burials – 1698-1913
In many cases, these have been transcribed by hand in recent years and so are very readable.
