We are writing to inform Town Councils, Parish Councils, and Neighbourhood Planning Groups within or adjoining South Hams and West Devon that our Councils have launched a Scoping Consultation for the new South Hams and West Devon Joint Local Plan.
The consultation is an early opportunity to help shape the matters the new Joint Local Plan should address and the way we engage people during plan preparation.
The attached Notice sets out details of how residents, local businesses, organisations, voluntary groups and other stakeholders can engage with and respond to the consultation.
The Councils are seeking views on:
- the vision and objectives for the new Joint Local Plan;
- the key issues for the new Joint Local Plan to address;
- how the Councils should engage with people throughout the plan-making process.
The best way to read and respond to the local plan scoping consultation is on the council’s online consultation platform ‘Commonplace.’ However responses can also be provided by email or by post as set out in the attached Notice.
Representations must be received by the Councils by 11.59pm on Thursday 24 September 2026.
